Our Mission
Gerard Noodt, 1647-1725
Noodt was a great legal scholar, with wit and imagination, and more than that; he was a lover of freedom, and even more so, he had the courage to speak up for it.

We are a non-partisan, policy-relevant actor, stimulating research, debate, and policy development in support of the effective realisation of freedom of religion or belief and matters of conscience.

We
subscribe fully to existing standards on freedom of religion or belief in international human rights law, as developed by the United Nations, the Council of Europe, European Union Institutions, the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe, and other relevant international organisations.

Our aim is to contribute to the protection of freedom of religion or belief both by supporting the development of instruments of international law and by facilitating the international attention that is a prerequisite for the protection of freedom of religion or belief.

Our approach is international, interdisciplinary and consultative, and it favours practical relevance. To achieve its aims, we lend support to active entities with aims compatible with this mission.
